SAN FRANCISCO — The inadvertent disclosure of documents subject to attorney-client privilege does not waive that protection, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

The unanimous decision, written by Justice Ming Chin, reverses an earlier appellate court decision that said the City of Los Angeles had waived the privilege when it accidentally released documents in response to a Public Records Act request filed by the plaintiffs in a class action over taxes.
