The U.S. Department of Labor is about to dramatically increase the number of Americans who can receive overtime pay. Under rules it’s expected to finalize Wednesday, the minimum salary level required for “white-collar” exemptions will at least double, and as many as 5 million workers could become overtime-eligible. The Recorder spoke with R. Brian Dixon, co-chair of Littler Mendelson’s wage-and-hour practice group, to talk about what companies should do to prepare and why the new regulations might not hit California employers as hard as others.
