The court of appeals reversed a district court judgment and remanded the action for further proceedings. The court held that a public school district denied a child a free appropriate public education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act where it failed to formally assess the child for autism, and thus could not design an educational plan that addressed his needs, despite the fact that he displayed signs of autistic behavior.
