SACRAMENTO – California lawmakers on Wednesday called on Silicon Valley’s tech industry to disclose data on the diversity of its workforce in a response, they said, to a “digital divide that threatens the long-term economic growth of the state.”
The voluntary request seeks information about the racial, ethnic, age and gender makeup of companies’ employees and corporate boards; educational and skills requirements for entry-level jobs; and the existence of any worker development and diversity outreach programs. Four legislative caucuses, including those representing Latinos and women members, back the data disclosure.
