SAN JOSE — Hewlett Packard on Thursday won $3 billion in a lawsuit against Oracle Corp. following a five-week jury trial that challenged HP’s lawyers to pin Oracle as the killer of a once-lucrative technology that powered servers used by some of America’s largest businesses.

The 12-person jury also rejected arguments by Oracle that HP had violated federal law barring false advertising by misleading business partners and customers about the future prospects of its technology. Oracle had sought roughly $90 million in damages on that claim.
