SACRAMENTO—Three U.S. Senate Democrats, including California’s Dianne Feinstein, have asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the impacts of short-term rental platforms on cities’ housing stocks and rents.
In a letter to FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez, Feinstein, Brian Schatz of Hawaii and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said they also are concerned about reports of racial discrimination in rental decisions, inconsistent tax collection among jurisdictions and potential violations of local health and safety regulations.
