As directors of IP counsel at biotech giant Thermo Fisher Scientific, Roger C. Kuan and Jason J. Novak saw how hard it was to find outside attorneys who could grasp the nuances of both software and molecular biology.

Starting this week, K&L Gates’ two newest IP partners hope to help fill that gap. Kuan will work out of K&L Gates’ Palo Alto office, while Novak will work in San Francisco. They’ll be focusing on transactions, diligence, procurement and portfolio management for life sciences clients.
