SAN FRANCISCO—Veteran federal prosecutor Barbara Valliere has been tapped to head the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.

An office spokesman confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Valliere is being vetted by DOJ officials in Washington, D.C., for the position left vacant by the departure of David Callaway from the office at the end of last month.
