SAN FRANCISCO — The company behind the viral smartphone game Pokémon Go has chosen Cooley to do battle against a set of lawsuits claiming the app is a nuisance to property owners.

Cooley partners Michael Rhodes, Benjamin Kleine and Jeff Gutkin entered appearances Wednesday for Niantic Inc. in two cases over the “augmented reality” game, which lets users “capture” creatures scattered at various GPS coordinates using their mobile phone. Also entering appearances were Cooley associates Bethany Lobo and Kristine Forderer.
