SAN FRANCISCO — Tesla Motors Inc. is facing accusations of age discrimination from a 69-year-old former materials engineer who says he was ostracized by his manager after taking time off to recover from a heart condition and ultimately fired.

In a complaint filed in federal court in Oakland, attorneys for Thomas Flessner say the engineer had been given almost uniform praise from managers during his time working with casting machines at Tesla’s factory in Fremont, California, from 2012 until fall of last year.
