SAN FRANCISCO—The doctor who concluded that San Mateo County resident Kevin Hart’s shattered leg, fractured rib and lacerated kidney didn’t entitle him to disability benefits lost his position on the state’s disability screening panel in December 2013. But in March 2014, the Social Security Administration told Hart that based on that doctor’s evaluation, he didn’t qualify for a check.

Morrison & Foerster associate Elizabeth Balassone took the lead in successfully representing Hart and other clients in a class action against the Social Security Administration, and the proposed settlement is currently under consideration by U.S. District Judge Jon Tigar.
