Just a few months ago, Mark Yohalem and Munger, Tolles & Olson landed on opposite sides of one of the year’s most dramatic legal tussles. Yohalem, deputy chief of appeals at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, was working on litigation against Apple as it refused to help the FBI unlock a mass shooter’s iPhone. Munger Tolles filed an amicus brief backing Apple’s position that the FBI’s demand would set a dangerous precedent.
The difference of opinion didn’t stop Yohalem from joining Munger Tolles as of counsel this week. He’ll be based in Los Angeles, and he expects his work to include a mixture of complex litigation and appellate matters.
