SACRAMENTO—Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. came to Sacramento Tuesday to meet with some of his newest clients, California’s legislative Democrats.

The Covington & Burling partner’s visit was billed by Senate leaders as an opportunity to talk “offense and defense on immigration, health care and the environment.” Holder, retained by the Legislature in January, met outside the Capitol with Senate and Assembly caucuses but declined to say what he shared with lawmakers in earlier closed-door meetings.
