SAN FRANCISCO — In a case being closely watched by the tech community, a federal judge in Seattle will let Microsoft Corp. move forward with its First Amendment challenge to indefinite gag orders prohibiting the company from disclosing government requests for customer information stored in the cloud.

U.S. District Judge James Robart of the Western District of Washington, who is also at the center of the firestorm over President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration, issued a 47-page order Wednesday denying the government’s motion to dismiss Microsoft’s lawsuit.
