SAN FRANCISCO — Litigation funding is making inroads with Big Law firms and clients in the energy, technology and automobile sectors, but ethics concerns continue to pose a hurdle to greater adoption of third-party financing arrangements, according to new survey results.

The survey was conducted jointly by Above the Law and Lake Whillans, a commercial litigation funder headquartered in New York. It draws on data from just over 400 respondents in three dozen cities, including solo practitioners, in-house counsel, and law firm partners and associates.
