The new normal in the legal market is constant lateral movement by attorneys from one law firm to another. The competition among law firms is fierce, and attorneys and entire practice groups are sometimes wooed by other firms promising greener pastures.

Attorneys may have a wide range of reasons for considering changing law firms, including money, the ability to grow a practice, or simply for a perceived upgrade in status. However, when moving law firms, there is a risk that the new job is not what the attorney expected or, in a worst-case scenario, the job offer is revoked after the attorney gives up her or his position at the old law firm.
