While attorneys may be vigilant and detail-oriented by nature, they are still human. Accordingly, mistakes can happen in the course of an attorney-client representation, even when attorneys take steps to reduce their risk overall.

When mistakes occur, too many attorneys choose to ignore the problem or, at the opposite end of the spectrum, immediately admit guilt and accept liability, even where the mistake may not rise to the level of malpractice. Unfortunately, these responses can often exacerbate the problem.
