On Tuesday, the firm announced that it was eliminating 10 national staff positions in its New York and San Francisco offices. The San Francisco office also unveiled voluntary departure offers for some of its legal secretaries and word-processing operators.

The moves come about seven months after Pillsbury laid off about 20 associates in its New York and Silicon Valley offices. During the past 12 months, several Bay Area firms, including Fenwick & West; Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison; and Skjerven Morrill, have laid off staff members and attorneys in order to weather the slowdown in corporate legal work.
