But today there are other “dots” out there. Unlike the pre-9/11 “dots,” these are blatantly visible, impossible to miss, conspicuous splotches. Yet judging by the freshly announced Bush Doctrine on the Middle East, these “dots” are being missed. Here are three of them, and some thoughts on their significance.

Dot One is the video of the beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Many, most poignantly the Pearl family itself, have condemned the Boston Phoenix for linking to the Web site where the video may be watched. Watching it is not for the sensitive. But, as the New Republic noted, “surely there are times when truth is more important than taste.”
