The San Jose-based intellectual property firm had already cut 11 of its 98 associates in October, as well as several staff members. Skjerven informed attorneys and staff of the latest round of layoffs Monday. To date, seven Bay Area firms have announced layoffs in response to the downturn in the economy.

Skjerven’s decision to further weed its ranks is “really a function of the decrease in demand from our technology clients,” said Managing Partner Edward Anderson. “The strength of the firm has been doing work for technology clients, and that work has gone down.”
