My mother’s whole family (the Reed family and the Shirley family) hails from South Carolina, and I went to college two hours south of there, in Atlanta, Ga., and law school four hours north of there, in Durham, N.C. Through that experience, I was introduced to “Southern Rock,” which didn’t really stick with me, but I do remain a big fan of Molly Hatchet’s “Flirtin’ With Disaster.”
