“She figured out in pretty short order what was working, what wasn’t working [and] started giving us ideas of how to make things work,” said Chairman Dennis Stryker.

Teveia Barnes, a partner at Foley & Lardner who hired Shah at CMCP, said Shah always seemed driven by the social aspects of law rather than the practice itself. She echoed other CMCP members, saying Shah’s new position seems like a perfect fit for someone who earned her first degree in social welfare.

“I don’t think it’s a luxury item,” said Fong, the Pillsbury partner who oversees the diversity committee. “I think it’s something that a few years from now will be seen as a necessity for a large law firm.”
