Hogan Lovells appoints new MP for Beijing office following Jones Day departure

Hogan Lovells has appointed a new managing partner in Beijing following the departure of intellectual property (IP) partner Horace Lam to Jones Day. Lam left Hogan Lovells to join Jones Day on 23 May and has been replaced by corporate partner Jun Wei, a corporate and commercial partner focusing on M&A, private equity and project financing. Wei advises multinational companies and financial institutions on structuring their investments in China and dealing with Chinese regulatory agencies.

College of Law set to cut up to 20 jobs following staffing review

The College of Law has confirmed that it has launched a redundancy review, with 20 full-time roles at risk of being cut. The college began the consultation last week (26 May), with the cuts set to affect tutor staff members. The redundancies come on the back of a staffing review which found that some of the college's eight centres were overstaffed, with others understaffed.

The US law firm's partnership was notified by email last month that no-one will stand against Verrier, despite speculation that New York-based banking chief Eric Berg and London project finance partner Philip Stopford would contest the role.

Irwin Mitchell has overhauled its management structure and practice stream makeup in preparation for its planned conversion to an alternative business structure later this year. The firm, which confirmed in April that it intended to take advantage of the Legal Services Act (LSA) and was considering taking external capital, changed its structure last month – splitting the business into a limited liability partnership (LLP) and a separate holding company and appointing a new board to manage both parts of the firm.

CMS partners set to pay in up to £70,000 in new cash call

CMS Cameron McKenna has called on its partners to put in additional cash, with the firm upping the amount of capital paid in by equity partners by £1,000 per equity point. The capital increase, which was approved by a partner vote at the end of last month, affects the amount of money partners pay in when they join the equity, with all also required to make a one-off payment covering the increased cost for each of their equity points.
