Linklaters boosts India practice with return of partner from referral firm

Linklaters has boosted its India practice, re-hiring a partner from its Mumbai referral firm Talwar Thakore & Associates (TT&A). Narayan Iyer - who will return to Linklaters in August as a partner - first joined the firm as a trainee in 1996. He helped to set up Linklaters India practice, and was elected a partner in 2007. Iyer left Linklaters to join the TT&A partnership in 2009, where he has been developing the firm's finance practice.

BLP confirms 102 legal and secretary layoffs as 84% take voluntary offer

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has cut all of the 102 jobs which it placed under review back in May, with 58 legal staff and 44 secretarial staff laid off. The redundancy programme, which was announced on 14 May, lasted for 45 days, and saw 84% of those laid off take voluntary redundancy.

Willmott will start at the firm in September and be based in its London office. He joins from Kirkland where he has been CFO since 2004, based in its Chicago headquarters. Speechly posts steady turnover as firm eyes 25% PEP boost from partnership shake-up

Speechly Bircham has posted flat revenues for 2012-13 following a series of management changes and partner exits that are expected to see the firm's partner profits rise 25% next year. The City firm took in fee income of £57.5m for the last financial year, broadly in line with the 2011-12 figure of £57.6m, while profits per equity partner (PEP) fell 3% from £303,000 to £293,000. Over the last financial year around 17 partners have left the firm – six of which were retirements, with one more to take effect in October. Meanwhile, six partners have been asked to leave, alongside a number of departures to other law firms and moves in-house.
