Weil Gotshal Moves to End Legal Malpractice SuitWeil, Gotshal & Manges has moved for summary judgment in a legal malpractice suit by a former bankruptcy client. The National Benevolent Association, one of the largest non-profits ever to file for bankruptcy, sued Weil Gotshal in 2005, claiming the firm pushed it into a "disastrous" Chapter 11 filing rather than exploring a negotiated settlement with creditors. In last week's motion, Weil Gotshal said the group's claims were based on "nothing more than speculation, conjecture and surmise."

Will Belnick Go To Trial?The odds are increasing that Mark Belnick will go to trial after all. In August a Manhattan judge upheld the top count of larceny against Belnick, the former GC of Tyco International Ltd. State supreme court justice Michael Obus also rejected Belnick's motion to dismiss six counts of falsifying business records. Next up: a September 22 hearing at which the judge will work out a schedule for the case, possibly including a trial date.

Attorney Charged With Groping Female LawyersA lawyer who has represented several police unions was arrested Friday on charges of groping two female lawyers. According to the complaint by the Manhattan district attorney's office, Richard A. Dienst is facing counts of forcible touching, third-degree sexual abuse and second-degree harassment. The top count of forcible touching is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison.
