No Prison Time for Former Texas Lawyer Who Fought Extradition"You have taken some steps on the road to redemption, and I take that into consideration," 228th District Judge Marc Carter of Houston told former Texas lawyer Stuart Bryson Collins, who was extradited from Canada to face charges. Carter told Collins that he gave him the deferred adjudication, because that would allow him eventually to return to Canada, where his family lives.

Godwin Pappas' Houston Office to SeparateName partner Christopher Pappas is leaving Dallas-based Godwin Pappas & Ronquillo and taking 11 trial attorneys from the firm's Houston office to join Kane Russell Coleman & Logan's Houston office. The decision will leave the commercial litigation firm -- to be renamed Godwin Ronquillo -- without a Houston office. "Bottom line, we were productive and had a very good year, but at the end of the day, all of the name partners wanted to step back and do their thing," says managing partner Marcos Ronquillo.

The move paid off: his theatrics didn't cost him his license -- and actually helped him to cement a client relationship that eventually led to his current position as general counsel of Landry's Restaurants Inc.
