New Well-Testing Act Runs Deep

A new state law went into effect on Saturday, requiring buyers and sellers of residences served by drinking-water wells, as well as landlords of such buildings, to certify that they have been checked for contaminants. The Department of Environmental Protection estimates that 12 percent of New Jersey residents get their water from private wells, and that as many as 30,000 home sales a year will be subject to the more stringent tests, which will cost $450 to $650.
