Attorney Harry V. Cardoni, the managing member of Cardoni & Associates in Kingston, Pa., has been identified by sources and court documents as the person who provided Luzerne County Judge Michael T. Toole with "things of value," including free use of a New Jersey beach house, while continuing to litigate cases before the judge. On Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Toole had entered a plea agreement with federal prosecutors and would plead guilty to honest services fraud and filing a false tax return.

Reed Smith's Talks With Chicago Firm End

Merger talks between Reed Smith and Chicago-based Wildman Harrold Allen & Dixon are off, according to a joint statement. The firms cited client conflicts as the chief reason for terminating the discussions. "The same thing happens in corporate transactions.
