Supreme Court Must Confront Porngate's Compromise of Judiciary

The porngate emails sent by prosecutors from the state Attorney General's Office to members of the judiciary have created a legal swamp for the judicial and executive branches of Pennsylvania government. Public officials, prosecutors and members of the judiciary are desperately attempting to make the situation appear to be something it is not. The result is that the very serious problem of the compromise of the judiciary is lost in a fog of confusing accusations and counter-accusations.

There have been numerous legal filings concerning the actions of state Attorney General Kathleen Kane, including criminal charges against her. In addition, there have been many disclosures that employees and former employees of the Attorney General's Office have been sending and receiving obscene emails with many others, including members of the judiciary. Many of the senders were employees on staff of the attorney general prior to Kane taking office.

Protecting Against Cyberattacks on Colleges and Universities

Colleges and universities are increasing targets for cybercrime operators. Rutgers University and Fairleigh Dickinson University were both recently hit in cyberattacks. Both schools' networks were shut down for nearly a day. In 2014, Indiana University and the University of Maryland were victims of cyberattacks. Indiana had 146,000 records exposed and Maryland had 300,000 records exposed. Colleges and universities face cybersecurity challenges similar to those faced by government and major commercial institutions.
