Merger Maneuvering Brings Gains on the NLJ 350

Major mergers last year landed two newly created firms on the NLJ 350, and smaller combinations resulted in jumps up the list for five other firms. The search for opportunities—new clients, practices and geographic markets—in the face of a static market for legal services drove most of the marriages, according to firm leaders and consultants. Overall, law firm head counts on the NLJ 350 were flat in 2014, increasing by a mere 0.6 percent.
