The United Kingdom has announced it will move ahead with its plans to tax foreign tech companies on revenue generated in the country, enacting one of the world’s first digital tax regimes.

But it might not be the last. The European Union, as well as countries in Asia and Latin America, have discussed a digital tax as a way to harness revenue generated by major tech companies, including Google and Facebook, in their countries.
