While many legal departments have been focused on doing more with less over the past year, fintech unicorn Brex Inc. has been a whirlwind of growth. The firm’s legal department is luring away legal talent from financial industry giants, Big Law and other fintech firms and has more than doubled in size with the addition of eight new lawyers since January.

“Our hiring has been on fire,” said Katie Biber, Brex’s San Francisco-based chief legal officer. “We’re a hyper-growth fintech company and we’re heavily regulated. So lawyers are a critical part of our growth.”
