A funny thing happened during the COVID-19 pandemic: Lawyers specializing in mass torts moved to Puerto Rico. Now, many of them are planning an inaugural plaintiffs’ bar conference next week in San Juan, complete with ocean-side cocktails, a concert and a VIP boat party.

Mass Torts Puerto Rico, to be held May 4-6 at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel, features some of the biggest topics in mass torts: Roundup, Zantac and the Johnson & Johnson talcum powder bankruptcy. But it also includes a session called “Practicing Law in Paradise,” described as “everything you need to know about the tax benefits of moving to Puerto Rico,” according to the event’s website.
