Dr. Finkel is the founder of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and co-founder
of the International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA)
Council on Aging. He has received awards for excellence from all three of these organizations.
Formerly Professor of Psychiatry at Northwestern University where he was the Director of the Division
of Geriatric Psychiatry, he was awarded Secondary Professorial appoint ments in Internal Medicine and
Neurology. In clinical practice for over 40 years, he has received more than 9 million dollars in research
and educational grants and awards, has published over 100 papers and chapters, and has delivered more
than 1000 lectures in the field.
