DLA Piper has combined with Mexican outfit Gallastegui y Lozano, creating a nine-partner Mexico City based firm to be known as DLA Piper Gallastegui y Lozano.

Three of the five partners previously staffing DLA's Mexico City office have left to join Baker & Mckenzie ahead of their former firm's tie-up.

The combination, set to go live in January, will be headed by Gallastegui y Lozano's current managing partner, Eduardo Gallastegui.

Gallastegui said: "As a consequence of the interesting business opportunities to arise due to the strategic structural reforms recently enacted in our country, we're looking forward to working together and making this combination a unique model for the practice of law in Mexico."

DLA's Mexico City co-head, corporate partner Carlos Valencia, has joined Bakers in the same city, along with fellow corporate partner Tatiana Escribano and real estate and infrastructure partner Miguel de Erice.

The three partner team are joined by two of counsel, an associate and a legal clerk.
