    King & Spalding doubles City revenues

    King & Spalding has more than doubled its City revenues for its last financial year, with the US firm posting London turnover of $21.88m (£11.16m) for 2006. The result marks an increase of 135% on 2005, when the firm recorded revenues of just $8.6m (£4.4m). They also mark the second year running that the London office has been profitable.

    Mourant launches New York legal arm

    Mourant de Feu & Jeune is to become the first offshore law firm to offer legal advice in New York, following the transfer of a senior associate to Manhattan. Senior associate Simon Felton is relocating from firm's City arm in April to join Mourant's 35-strong Manhattan operation, which currently provides third-party fund administration and tax compliance services to private equity funds.

    Germany leads way as Weil unveils '06 results

    The German practice of Weil Gotshal & Manges has emerged as one of the firm's best-performing offices after the New York giant revealed modest firmwide financial growth for 2006. The Manhattan firm saw turnover increase by just 4% across the firm to reach $1.06bn (£544m) - up from a mark of $1.02bn (£524m) for the previous 12-month period. Average profits per partner also rose by around 4%, up from $1.85m (£950,610) to a new figure of $1.95m (£1m).

    Lovells loses US restructuring duo to MoFo

    Lovells is set to lose the bulk of its US restructuring practice after two partners, including its US restructuring head, Gary Lee, handed in their notice. Lee, who leads the firm's US insolvency and restructuring practice and is one of the firm's best-known US partners, and Karen Ostad are both understood to have handed in their notice within the last week.

    Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Preston Gates Ellis is launching a pensions practice in London after hiring a three-lawyer team from McDermott Will & Emery. McDermott partner Danny Tsang is set to join Kirkpatrick to lead the group on 1 February with associates Louise Waldron and Comron Rowe. Tsang's move leaves McDermott without a single dedicated UK pensions partner.
