Hogan Lovells boosts City DCM group with Sidley appointment

Hogan Lovells has strengthened its London debt capital markets (DCM) practice with the hire of Dennis Dillon from the City arm of Sidley Austin. Dillon, who joined Hogan Lovells this week (17 January), is US-qualified and specialises in structured finance transactions, working with clients such as Merrill Lynch.

Camerons hires Simmons partner for international capital markets launch

CMS Cameron McKenna has launched an international capital markets (ICM) group with the hire of Simmons & Simmons US securities partner Daniel Winterfeldt. As previously reported by Legal Week, Winterfeldt left Simmons in early December 2010. He will join Camerons next month (1 February) to head up the new team, which will span 13 offices in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and include around 40 partners.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has bolstered its City debt capital markets practice with two new partners, including the lateral hire of Peter Allen from magic circle rival Linklaters. Allen joins Freshfields' finance practice in London alongside Duncan Kellaway, who joins as a partner from Clifford Chance (CC), where he was a senior associate. Allen specialises in a wide range of securities work, including advising underwriters and issuers in connection with issues of debt, equity and equity-related securities in international markets. He has particular expertise in emerging markets debt issuance.

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton is set to launch a Hong Kong law practice next year with the hire of Norton Rose's China corporate finance head. Freeman Chan will join Cleary to lead the new practice early next year, when the US firm intends to start practising local law. The practice will focus on Hong Kong-listed initial public offerings, capital market transactions, private equity and M&A.

Hogan Lovells and Eversheds are in line to pick up lead roles on domestic airline Flybe's proposed flotation on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). The airline is understood to be handing the main role on its planned listing to longstanding adviser Eversheds. London-based corporate partner Simon Masters is expected to lead the team advising on the listing, which is set to value the company at around £200m.

Linklaters and Jenner & Block have won roles as General Motors this week increased the number of shares on offer in its landmark initial public offering (IPO), reports The Am Law Daily. The car maker, which is being advised by US firm Jenner, has responded to strong market demand by expanding the IPO by 31%, helping the company to raise $23.1bn (£14.4bn) in what could be the largest IPO ever.
