Simmons brings in one partner each for City and Milan bases

Simmons & Simmons has made two partner hires, strengthening its London corporate practice and its Milan litigation team. The firm has hired Travers Smith counsel Caroline Murphy as a partner for its London corporate practice and brought in Hogan Lovells partner Cristina Pagni in Italy. Murphy, who has worked with clients including Bridgepoint Capital and 3i, becomes the fourth partner in Simmons' London private equity team. Prior to joining Travers in 2006, Murphy was general counsel at furniture retailer Habitat, becoming the first person to hold the position when she left Clifford Chance in 2004.

Eversheds has strengthened its London real estate practice with the hire of planning partner David Hardy from regional firm Cobbetts, taking the number of partners in its planning practice to 11. Hardy, who is qualified as both a barrister and a solicitor, will join from Cobbetts alongside planning associate Michelle Smith and personal assistant Michelle Brown.

SJ Berwin has persuaded EU and competition head Stephen Kon to remain with the firm after he resigned last month to join Milbank Tweed 
Hadley & McCloy. Kon was voted into the Milbank partnership in mid-June alongside fellow competition partner Cameron Firth, but both partners subsequently retracted their resignations and opted to stay with the top 20 City law firm.
