Ricoh has been granted a patent for Remlox, an offering that remotely collects electronically stored information (ESI) for computer forensics and e-discovery needs.

There are efficiency and economic benefits with the product, as the company says Remlox is able to cut down on the cost and time spent to collect email and other ESI from litigants' computers. Basically, it produces a forensic image that is useful for forensic analysis, litigation holds, litigation preservation and other e-discovery requirements.

“Acquired ESI can be isolated for processing and document review as required,” David Greetham, vice president of e-discovery operations at Ricoh Legal, said in a statement to Legaltech News about the new offering. “As Remlox creates a full physical image of a workstation, full forensics analysis can also be performed, including such investigative rich content as recovery of deleted files, Internet history analysis, spoliation assessment, etc. In fact, Remlox produces the same type of full forensic image as if an expert had performed the forensic imaging in person. This can provide the attorney or legal department with relevant and valid information to assist them in litigating their matter more effectively.”
