With the Trump administration's proposed budget cuts dangling over the federal funding of legal aid organizations, the use of legal technology to provide more cost-effective and efficient pro bono services is becoming more vital than ever. But unlike many corporations and law firms, legal aid organizations often lag behind in modernizing their operations.
In one of the most technology-conscious areas of the country, however, the legal technology industry is stepping up to close the gap—and helping to redefine how legal aid is delivered.
E-filing and document service provider One Legal recently announced a partnership with Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal), which will work to shore up the legal aid organization's financing through a revenue-sharing program, and modernize its services through the ongoing donation of OneLegal technology and services.
