Clearwire Corp. and Sprint Nextel have unveiled plans for a $14.5 billion company to build a next-generation broadband network. The transaction will combine Sprint Nextel's WiMAX business with Clearwire. The new entity, also to be called Clearwire, will be 51 percent owned by Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint Nextel and 27 percent by Kirkland, Wash.-based Clearwire. The venture has the backing of Intel Corp., Google Inc., Time Warner Cable Inc. and Bright House Networks who will receive a 22 percent stake in exchange for investments totaling about $3.2 billion.
