Beyond the Valley: Who's Winning the Tech-Law Biz?
There are many ways to spot which hi-tech regions are the hottest challengers to the dominance of Silicon Valley. You can rank them by the amount of venture capital, or by the growth of tech jobs -- or you can track where the technology lawyers are flocking. Northern Virginia is the clear leader by the latter. A close second is New York's Silicon Alley, which has become a magnet for firms with established technology practices in Silicon Valley, Boston and Texas. There's More to Marketing Than Money
Small firms don't need big bucks to get big marketing results, say pros who can produce eye-popping effects on a bargain budget.Georgia High Court Bars Lawyer Occupation Tax
A major accounting firm and medical malpractice defendants won big victories from the Georgia Supreme Court Monday, but lawyers on both sides of those cases could find themselves winners courtesy of another decision. The state high court held unanimously that Atlanta's $400 per lawyer annual occupation tax is an unconstitutional precondition to practicing law. The decision could force the cash-strapped government to cough up millions.A federal judge continues to whittle away at summary judgment motions by ruling in favor of digital camera manufacturers accused of infringing two patents owned by Papst Licensing Gmbh & Co., which is being represented by Husch Blackwell.

Seventy years ago, the Nazi government virtually stole the painting from a Jewish family, but Spain argued that because it acquired the painting long after its expropriation, it was entitled to immunity. The Ninth Circuit ruled otherwise.
Texas Powerhouse Vinson & Elkins No Longer Invincible
It's been mostly business as usual this year for Joe Dilg, managing partner of 798-lawyer Vinson & Elkins. Formerly the lead V&E lawyer on the Enron Corp. account, Dilg had little time in 2003 for legal work. He spent his time glad-handing clients, troubleshooting management issues and acting as a firm leader. But, at the end of this year, for Dilg and V&E, one thing will be different: For the first time in more than a decade, V&E's revenues for the year will decline.Trending Stories
