Comic superhero stable Marvel Enterprises Inc. has sued The Walt Disney Co., claiming the entertainment giant never had legal rights to make animated television programs based on comic book characters such as "Spider-Man" and "X-Men." In the suit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court, Marvel accuses Disney of copyright infringement, fraud and unfair competition stemming from Disney's distribution of animated episodes of Marvel characters.

Tribunals Put Defense Bar in a Bind

As the Pentagon gears up for possible military commission trials of Guantanamo Bay detainees, the criminal defense bar is split on the question of whether lawyers should volunteer to represent those facing trial before commissions, or register objection by refusing to participate. NTP Sues 6 Major Tech Companies Over Patents Covering Wireless E-Mail

Four years after netting a $612.5 million settlement with BlackBerry maker Research in Motion, patent-holding company NTP is suing a half-dozen companies that do business in the wireless handheld device industry. On Thursday, NTP sued manufacturers, software makers and product developers in the Eastern District of Virginia for allegedly infringing eight NTP patents related to delivering electronic mail over wireless communications systems. The defendants are Apple, Google, HTC, LG Electronics, Microsoft and Motorola.
