Law Firms Step Up Gay-Hiring Initiatives

Recruiting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender attorneys is a big part of the initiatives launched by law firms to build diversity, though the conservative nature of large firms has kept those lawyers away. But with law school enrollment down, tapping into the talent pool of LGBT lawyers makes good business sense. Creating an environment where attorneys are comfortable being open is key to retention and recruitment, says King & Spalding partner Scott Eckas, who serves on the firm's diversity committee.
