General Motors said Monday that about 35,000 hourly workers have accepted its buyout and early retirement offers, giving the troubled automaker a major victory in its effort to restructure operations outside of the bankruptcy court. The buyouts come as GM attempts to streamline operations and reverse annual losses that hit $10 billion in 2005. The company expects to reach its target of shedding 30,000 manufacturing jobs in early 2007, far ahead of its 2009 goal.
