Marvel-Disney Deal Complicated by Comic Copyright Claims

Heirs of the late comic writer Jack Kirby have retained Marc Toberoff -- a thorn in the side of many Hollywood studios -- to file copyright claims related to several superheroes. Toberoff reportedly sent 45 notices of copyright termination to Marvel Entertainment, The Walt Disney Co., Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox seeking to regain copyright control of certain characters. The claims come on the heels of Disney's $4 billion acquisition of Marvel in late August.

Suit Alleges Target Denies Blind Access to Online Shopping

Through careful negotiations and tactical lawsuits, plaintiffs attorneys have won greater access for the blind to essential technologies, such as ATMs and voting machines. Now a nonprofit law firm is taking the fight to commercial Web sites, claiming Target's online store is no different under the California Civil Code than a brick-and-mortar store. It's an untested strategy but not necessarily a difficult legal argument, some say. An attorney in the case says Target could be on the hook for $2.4 billion.
