In its first ruling, Texas' new multidistrict litigation panel ordered the transfer of more than 20 asbestos cases filed around the state to a single judge to handle pretrial matters -- a decision that could affect thousands of asbestos suits. The MDL panel in Union Carbide v. Adams, et al. found that the cases "involve one or more common questions of fact" and that the transfer "will promote the just and efficient conduct of the cases."
