Sales at U.S. retailers probably dropped in July for the first time in five months as record gasoline prices siphoned the cash from tax rebates out of consumers' pockets, economists said before reports this week. The Federal Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has thrown out a verdict that two years ago awarded $104 million in damages from a patent infringement case against DirecTV in the Eastern District of Texas. A Texas jury originally awarded Sunnyvale, Calif.'s Finisar damages after it found that DirecTV willfully infringed on a patent involving methods for transmitting and broadcasting digital information.
