The Biden administration on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to temporarily halt a Texas federal judge’s order to enforce the controversial Trump administration immigration policy known as the Migrant Protection Protocols.

In an emergency application filed with Justice Samuel Alito, acting U.S. Solicitor General Brian Fletcher asked for a stay of the district court’s order pending the outcome of the government’s appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit or, if the government loses, the filing and disposition of a petition to the high court.
