A federal judge has upheld a $1 million verdict in a civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act case filed by a man who claimed his daughter and son-in-law sabotaged his business by embezzling company funds and diverting them to their own company.

U.S. District Judge Mark Kearney of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania denied Michael and Nina Kaplan's motion to vacate the jury award handed down to Nina Kaplan's father, Ted Levy.

“After the jury unanimously found the daughter, son-in-law, and their company liable for most, but not all of the father's claims, they now move to set aside the jury's verdict on grounds largely waived at trial or not constituting clear error,” Kearney wrote in his opinion issued Monday.
